• Frank Linzy was the closer for the Giants in 1968. He went 9-8 with 12 saves and a 2.08 ERA in 57 games
• Linzy had good years for the Giants in the 1960s, but 1968 was his last good one. His ERA rose to 3.64 in 1969 and by 1970 he was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals.
• Frank had a a few more good seasons as a reliever for other clubs in the 1970s before retiring in 1974.

• The first time I was aware of Ron Herbel was when I read a blurb about him in the classic book The Great American Baseball Card Trading, Flipping and Bubble Gum Book in the mid-1970s. The authors were making fun of Ron's lack of offense. Herbel had a lifetime batting average of .029 (6 for 206 with two doubles).
• Ron pitched for the Giants from 1963-1969. He had stints with the San Diego Padres, the New York Mets, and the Atlanta Braves before ending his career in 1971.

1969 Topps Giants - Part 4 (pitchers)

Juan Marichal (#370) was the staff ace and had a great year. He had a 2.10 ERA and was 21-11 in 36 starts.

Ron Herbel (#251) was 4-1 with 1 save and a 4.02 ERA in 39 games (4 starts).

Joe Gibbon (#158) was 1-3 with 2 saves and a 3.60 ERA in 16 games. Gibbon was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates on June 10 for Ron Kline.

Frank Linzy (#345) was the main man out of the bullpen. He was 14-9 with 11 saves and a 3.64 ERA in 58 appearances. He averaged almost two innings per appearance.

Ray Sadecki (#125) was 5-8 with a 4.23 ERA in 29 games (17 starts)

1970 Topps Giants - Part 5 (pitchers)

Ron Bryant (# 433) was a 22-year-old swingman for the Giants in 1970. He was 5-8 with a 4.78 ERA in 34 games (11 starts).

Mike McCormick (# 337) appeared in 23 games (11 starts) in 1970. He was 3-4 with an ERA of 6.20. He was traded to the New York Yankees on July 20.

Rich Robertson (# 229) was the Giants' #3 starter in 1970. He appeared in 41 games (26 starts) and was 8-9 with a 4.85 ERA. Robertson had six base hits in 1970 -- two of them were home runs and two others were doubles.

Juan Marichal (# 210) started to show signs of slippage in 1970. He started 33 games, but was only 12-10 with a 4.12 ERA. It was the only year between 1962 and 1971 in which Juan wouldn't be selected to the All Star game.

Frank Linzy (# 77) appeared in 20 games and was 2-1 with one save and an ERA of 7.01. He was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals for Jerry Johnson on May 19.
