  • Ken Henderson was the starting LF for the Giants and batted .264 with 15 HR and 61 RBI. Ken batted .313 (6 for 15) in the NLCS.

#276 George Foster

  • George looks like he really didn't want his picture to be taken.

#600 Willie Mays

He had short stints with the Giants in 1970, 1971, and 1972. Williams was traded to the San Diego Padres with Willie McCovey for Mike Caldwell after the 1973 season. He batted .133 (1 for 15) with the Padres in 1974 before being sent down in mid-May. Bernie spent the rest of the 1974 season in the minors. 1972 Topps Giants - Part 6 (in action)

#712 Bobby Bonds
.
#36 Jerry Johnson

#50 Willie Mays

#166 Chris Speier

#186 Ron Bryant
  • When was this picture taken?
  • Bryant pitched at home twice against the Cardinals (April 19 and July1)
  • On April 19 Ron came in as a reliever in the top of the first inning. Bryant led off the bottom of the 3rd and struck out. He led off the bottom of the 5th with a single. It is doubtful that it was a bunt single. In the bottom of the 6th Bryant came up with two out and nobody on base and grounded out to second base. The Giants won the game 4-2 and didn't bat in the bottom of the 9th. It is doubtful that this picture was taken on April 19.
  • On July 1 Bryant started the game and lasted 4 2/3 innings. In the bottom of the third inning Bryant came up with a runner on first base and nobody out and hit into a force play. This may have been a foul bunt attempt by Bryant during this at bat. Ron was removed from the game before his spot came up in the batting order again, so the bottom of the third in this game may be when this picture was taken.

Dick Dietz

#444 Ken Henderson

#568 Juan Marichal

#694 Alan Gallagher

#147 Dave Kingman
  • Dave Kingman batted only .225 but hit 29 HR and had 89 RBI for the Giants in 1972. Dave spent most of this season at third base.

#366 Jimmy Rosario

1969 Topps Giants - Part 3 (outfielders)

Willie Mays (#190) was declining but he was still one of the best offensive players on the club. In 1969 Willie batted .283 with 13 HR and 58 RBI in 117 games.
Dave Marshall (#464) batted .232 with 2 HR and 33 RBI in 110 games. He and Ken Henderson split time in left field.
Frank Johnson (#227) batted .100 (1 for 10) in seven games in 1969. He was in AAA Phoenix for most of the season. Johnson would spent all or part of eight seasons from 1966-1975 in Phoenix.
Jim Hart (#555) batted .254 with 3 HR and 26 RBI in 95 games. It was a huge drop-off from his previous seasons. Jim played for the Giants from 1963 until early in 1973 but he didn't have a big year after 1968.
Bobby Bonds (#630) batted .259 with 30 HR and 90 RBI in 1969. Bonds stole 45 bases and led the NL in runs (120) and strikeouts (187).

1986 Topps Giants - Part 4 (outfielders)

  • Jeffrey Leonard (#490) played in 89 games, batting .279 with 6 HR and 42 RBI. He played his last 1986 game on July 29. Leonard was acquired by the Giants early in the 1981 season and stayed with the Giants until he was traded to Milwaukee for Ernest Riles on June 8, 1988. Jeffrey continued to play until he was released by the Seattle Mariners after the 1990 season.

  • Rob Deer (#249) didn't play for the Giants in 1986. He was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers for two minor leaguers after the 1985 season.

  • Joel Youngblood (#177) was a utilityman in 1986. He batted .255 in 97 games. Youngblood played every infield position, LF, and RF.

  • Candy Maldonado (#69T) led the Giants in home runs with 18 and in RBI with 85. He batted .252 in 405 at bats.

  • Ron Roenicke (#63) didn't play for the Giants in 1986. He was released during spring training in 1986 and caught on with the Oakland A's. He played for six teams in eight seasons from 1981-1988.

  • Here's a "Turn Back the Clock" card of Willie Mays (#403). These are pretty cool cards. I'd like to see Topps do this more often. The back of this card features several career milestones of HOFers like Aaron, Kaline, Banks, Killebrew, Frank Robinson, Bob Gibson, Hoyt Wilhelm, and Lou Brock. Mays is on this card because in '71 he hit his 638 career home run, which was also his 1950th run scored, which set a National League record.

Others who played OF for the Giants but didn't get a 1986 Topps Giants card:
  • Chili Davis (.278 with 13 HR, 70 RBI, 84 BB in 153 games as the starting RF)

  • Randy Kutcher (.237 in 186 AB in his rookie season)
  • Randy Bockus (0 for 1 in six games)

1960 Topps Giants - Part 3 (outfielders)

  • Willie Mays (#200, #564, and #7) had his usual good season in 1960. He batted .319 with 29 HR and 103 RBI. Willie scored 107 runs and stole 25 bases. Mays was 3rd in NL MVP balloting. In the first All Star game Willie was 3-4 with a double, triple and a run scored. In the second All Star game Mays was also 3-4 with a home run and a stolen base.

  • Orlando Cepeda (#450) played 91 games in LF and 63 games at 1B. He played LF and was 0-1 in the first 1960 All Star game. He was 0-2 in the second All Star game. For the season Cepeda batted .297 with 24 HR and 96 RBI.

  • Willie Kirkland (#172) started in RF. He batted .252 with 21 HR, 10 3B, and 65 RBI. The emergence of Felipe Alou made Kirkland expendable and he was traded to the Cleveland Indians with Johnny Antonelli for Harvey Kuenn after the season.

Others who played OF for the Giants but didn't get a 1960 Topps Giants card:

  • Dave Philley (purchased from the Phillies in May, sold to the Orioles in September - .164 in 61 AB)
