1986 Topps Giants - Part 6 (more pitchers)

Vida Blue (#770) was 10-10 with a 3.20 ERA in 28 starts.

Mike Krukow (#752)was the ace of the staff in 1986. He was 20-9 with a 3.05 ERA in 34 starts. Mike was an All Star (he pitched a perfect 9th inning) and finished 3rd in Cy Young Award voting.

Mike Jeffcoat (#571) didn't pitch for the Giants in 1986. He spent the season at AAA Phoenix (54 games, 7-2, 4.20 ERA)

Dave LaPoint (#551) didn't pitch for the Giants in 1986. He was traded to the Detroit Tigers in December 1985.

Jim Gott (#463) was 0-0 with one save and an ERA of 7.62 in 9 games (2 starts). He didn't appear in a game after May 8. He also started two games for AAA Phoenix but pitched only 2.2 innings combined in the two starts.

Scott Garrelts (#395) was 13-9 with 10 saves and a 3.11 ERA in 53 games (18 starts). He was a starter until July 2 then from July 6 to the end of the season he came out of the bullpen.

Frank Williams (#341) was 3-1 with one save and a 1.20 ERA in 36 games.

1987 Topps Giants - Part 4 (pitchers)

Juan Berenguer didn't pitch for the Giants in 1987. He was released by the Giants after the 1986 season and signed with the Minnesota Twins, where he won a World Series ring. Juan continued to pitch in the majors through the 1992 season.

Vida Blue didn't pitch for the Giants in 1987. He became a free agent after the 1986 season and signed with the Oakland A's. Vida abruptly retired during spring training in 1987 and it was rumored that he had failed a drug test.

Mike LaCoss led the Giants with 13 wins in 1987. He was 13-10 with a 3.68 ERA in 39 games (26 starts). LaCoss was picked up by the Giants in 1986 after he was released by the Kansas City Royals. He continued to pitch for the Giants until his release in 1991.

Frank Williams didn't pitch for the Giants in 1987. He and two minor leaguers were traded to the Cincinnati Reds after the 1986 season for Eddie Milner. Frank had a tough go of it after his playing career -- he was in a bad car accident in 1989 and ended up homeless in Vancouver, Canada after a divorce. He died of a heart attack in 2009.

Mark Davis was 4-5 with a 4.71 ERA in 20 games (11 starts) for the Giants in 1987. He was traded with Chris Brown, Keith Comstock, and Mark Grant to the San Diego Padres on July 5
for Kevin Mitchell, Dave Dravecky, and Craig Lefferts. He became an All-Star reliever with the Padres in 1988 and 1989. Mark was the NL Cy Young Award winner in 1989.

1985 Topps Giants Part 4

Dave LaPoint (#71T) was 7-17 with a 3.57 ERA in his only season with the Giants.

Jim Gott (#40T) was 7-10 with a 3.88 ERA in 26 starts for the Giants.

Scott Garrelts (#38T) was the Giants' representative to the 1985 All Star Game. He was 9-6 with 13 saves and a 2.30 ERA. He's wearing some killer glasses!

Atlee Hammaker (#674) was 5-12 with an ERA of 3.74 in 29 starts in 1985. He wasn't quite the same after being shelled in the 1983 All Star Game.

Jeff Robinson (#592) pitched in 8 games with no record and a 5.11 ERA.

Mark Davis (#541) was 5-12 with 7 saves and a 3.54 ERA in 77 games.

Jeff Cornell (#514) didn't pitch for the Giants in 1985. He pitched in his last major league game on August 16, 1984. He started with AAA Phoenix and was released on April 30, 1985. He hooked on with the Chicago Cubs and pitched in their system in 1985 and 1986, but he didn't make it back to the majors.

Frank Williams (#487) pitched in 49 games and had an ERA of 4.19 and a record of 2-4.

Gary Lavelle (#462) didn't pitch for the Giants in 1985. He was traded to Toronto for Jim Gott and two minor leaguers before the season.

Bill Laskey (#331) was 5-11 with a 3.55 ERA in 19 starts.

Randy Lerch (#103) didn't pitch for the Giants in 1985. He was granted free agency after the 1984 season and signed with the Philadelphia Phillies in May 1985.

There are a lot of cards with green folding chairs in the background. It might be Scottsdale Stadium. The Giants started training there in 1984.

Mike Krukow (#74) was 8-11 with a 3.38 ERA in 28 starts in 1985.

Greg Minton (#45) was 5-4 with a 3.54 ERA and had 4 saves in 68 games.
