Father's Day Contest Prize from Number 5 Type Collection

  • Here is a picture of the goodies I won from the Number 5 Type Collection blog
  • Gotta love the old cards. I'm especially excited about the Phoenix Giants cards since I went to a lot of their games when I was young
  • People who entered the contest had to make a comment about what his/her favorite team was and what his/her father's favorite team was. My comment is below:
  • My father's favorite team is the Giants. After a bit of an odyssey on my part, my favorite team ended up being the Giants as well.

I think my dad rooted/roots for the Giants because they have trained here in Arizona. Their AAA team was the Phoenix Giants for many years.

I started out as a Reds fan. This was the era of the Big Red Machine. I got mad at the Reds for trading Tony Perez and letting Pete Rose go. I switched to the Phillies when Rose went there. The Giants were always my secondary team because of going to so many Phoenix Giants games.

After Pete retired I ended up rooting for the Giants full time. This was the Roger Craig "humm-baby" era. This continued until the Barry Bonds era. I pulled for the Giants for his first few years, but when Arizona got the Diamondbacks I started rooting for them. This was mainly because it was getting much tougher to root for Bonds (grouchiness, roids).

After Bonds left I went back to the Giants and have been there ever since.
  • Thanks for the cards!!!!!

The first Strat-O-Matic game is headed north of the border

Captain Canuck from Alberta won the first Strat-O-Matic game. His preference was the computer version, so there are still one board game and one computer game left. If you haven't entered the contest yet and are interested, click here. Congratulations Captain!

By the way, you'll need to download the patch found here and follow the instructions. It updates and corrects a few things.

A Giant Strat-O-Matic Contest

My first contest! The Strat-O-Matic game company has sent me three copies of their baseball game. Two of the copies are the full computer version complete with the 2009 rosters and Card Image (which allows the player to see the players' card for that season). The third copy is the board game version with the 2009 cards.

I am going to give away one game per week for the next three weeks. All you need to do is to fill in the form below. Make sure you indicate whether you prefer the computer version or the board game version. The first two winners will get his/her preferred version and the third winner will get whatever version is left. Each week a random entrant will receive one of the games. Contest rules are here.

Here is the release from the Strat-O-Matic company:

Since 1961, Strat-O-Matic has created the most realistic simulation of statistically accurate baseball. Every player is rated by Strat-O-Matic’s unique rating system with statistical precision in each phase of the game – batting, pitching, defense and running.

Strat-O-Matic Baseball is played with the exact same rules as professional baseball. Each major leaguer has his own Strat-O-Matic Player Card based on his overall stats from the 2009 season. The gamer controls every aspect of each play from determining the starting line-up, stealing, hitting and running to replacing the starting pitcher. Instead of a bat and ball, the gamer uses dice, player cards and charts to play the game.

I have played tabletop and computer baseball games for about as long as I can remember. I've played several games but Strat-O-Matic is my favorite by far. You'll have fun with the game. In the coming days I'll be posting some articles about the games and things you can get to enhance your enjoyment of it. Good luck!
